Miscellaneous Friday Notes

For quite a while I’ve done a bad job of managing my email. I’m finally getting my inbox back in order, but there are still tens of thousands of messages — spanning the last year or so — that will probably go unread and unanswered for the near future. I’m going to do some sifting through, but I’ll probably end up declaring email bankruptcy. To everyone who I was a jerk to by not seeing their email, or not replying, I’m sorry. I will do better in the future.

Speaking of things I found deep in my inbox, T. Campbell told me he and Gisèle Lagacé were doing a comic for me last year, and I said I’d pass around the result. So here it is!

Raptor Awareness Day is this weekend! 200,000 attendees! I will spend it hiding in my attic with a tire iron and my Jurassic Park collection.

And lastly, Daniel Cohen tipped me off that apparently Nathan Fillion owns an electric skateboard, too!  To be honest, up until I saw that, I couldn’t name a single other person I knew of who had one.  I wonder if he’s interested in installing Li-On batteries (he says he only gets 6 or 7 miles to a charge).  It’s nice to know I’m not alone.  Although his is 30% more powerful than mine, so the odds would be against me in a race (unless he’s put off replacing the catalyzer on his port compression coil …)

  1. Would you mind explaining what “Ender spacebar” is? Something to do with young Wiggin, it sounds like.

  2. It’s where you post as someone else (typically a restricted name) by using “Name ” instead of “Name”.

  3. As for Nathan Fillion’s weight, the answer may surprise you. He looks like he hits the weight room very often, and as you have probably heard before, muscle is 18% denser than fat. At his height, he could easily be in the 100 Kg range without much trouble. I (Relatively healthy young male) find that people underestimate my weight by 15% or so fairly consistently, and I am by no means “Ripped”.

  4. Earlier this year, a few students in my Engineering class in High School took on the task of making an electric motor that could be easily attached to a skateboard. It’s finished and works great.

  5. I use “Inbox Zero” to keep my e-mail under control. The only time I had a problem with it was when I was on vacation – but, “processing messages” versus “doing e-mail” is much more efficient. You can read about it at http://www.43folders.com/izero .

Love xkcd – I’ve been spending time going through the archives, catching up on what I missed since my recent discovery of your fine comic. 🙂

Nathan Fillion arrived June 26, 2009 at Bungie to play HALO ODST in which his voice-acting brings attitude in the game, afterwords Bungie,Nathan and I/scott partied late into the night at The Central in Kirkland Washington, (Don’t get me wrong all I do is Design 1500 watt and 22500 watt electric skateboards) got to “UTUBE”, as people moved around the club I had an oppertunity to talk with Nathan about his Altered electric skateboard, apparently it has a flat tire.

I asked him about his board “I own a Altered” well stupid me said “don’t the flat tires suck” sorry people I did not intend to be an ass.

I have a fix for the flat tires, fill them with (A)&(B) Silicon compound at what ever pressure is supposed to be in the tires, it sets up in a day and the tire will bounce like a “SUPER BOUNCY BALL” the draw back is getting the tire off when it is worn down to the solid Core.

I use a band saw and a tire iron when replacing my 11×6.00-5 Duro racing slicks.

  9. Yeah that must be quite a lot of e-mails, you’ll have to skip dinner for 2-3 years if you want to read 10k mails!
